A dirty little secret for a new generation

It seduces us irrespective of gender, age, education, nationalities, social levels, or religion. We are captivated as we find the guilty pleasure penetrating deeper and deeper into our psyche. Regardless of what we tell ourselves, we can’t escape the ecstasy of expectation this purely voyeuristic pursuit brings.

Generations have grown up without first-hand knowledge of this visceral outlet. Since 1969, changes in the societal structure of our culture have created a decline in what was a readily accessible visual and aural touchpoint. Some are not even familiar with the label for this addictive vice.

But the deficiency of accessibility and having passed from the collective awareness is being rectified.

Just as it moved from a purely oral enticement, through the innovations of the written word, then radio and shortly after that television, the age-old art form of the melodrama is still viable through the medium of the podcast.

A whole new generation can now use their smartphones to explore the scandals, seductions, intrigues, and sexual politics of soap operas. They can revel in the delights of betrayals, uneasy alliances, dirty dealings, and wide-ranging emotional blackmail. They can follow over the top characters, listen to unbelievable plot lines, and bear witness to socially unacceptable behavior. Scandal, intrigue, and salaciousness fifteen minutes at a time.

And, according to our demographics, those folks between 20 and 40 years old are listening.

Come and join them. Go ahead, dip your toes in the water and walk along Restless Shores.
